Those gorgeous lashes are so pretty you want them to last forever. There are many ways to extend the life of your lash extensions and with close attention to these easy-to-follow maintenance techniques, you’ll feel and look your best between your touch-up appointments.
1. No water for the first 24 hours
It is important that your new extensions do not get wet for at least the first 24 hours so that the glue has a chance to set. The adhesive needs to cure with the right amount moisture in the air, too much moisture will cause the lashes to fall off.
2. Avoid steam and excessive heat
Specially designed glue is used to perfectly to adhere your lash extensions directly to your natural lashes. While it is essential to clean your lashes, it is best to avoid steam as much as possible. This means hot showers & baths, saunas, hot tubs, and hot yoga should not be regular agenda items on your schedule. Steam will adversely affect how the adhesive bonds to your lashes.
3. Do not rub of pull on your lashes
When cleansing your face and eyes, avoid rubbing your eyes, instead you should get used to patting your eyes gently which is in fact much better for the eyelashes and the sensitive skin around your eyes. It is best to cleanse this area with makeup remover cloth, and then clean your lashes with a Q-tip or Micro Brush. You’ll also want to abstain from pulling on your lashes, as you’re likely to pull out your natural lash as well as the lash extension!
4. No products containing oil
Do not use cleansers, makeup removers or moisturizers that contain oil or solvents on your eyes, as these will compromise the bonding agent used to adhere your eyelashes. Try to avoid contact with oily shampoo and conditioner to your lashes as it will eventually loosen the bond. There are oil-free cleansing wipes available that are specifically made for eyelash extensions. Try iLashcare® Facial Wipes and Oil-free Protein Remover & Primer. Lashfresh® makes an outstanding Eye & Lash Clean Wash Cleanser.
5. Sleep on your back
It is especially important to try to sleep on your back otherwise the lashes may rub against the pillow, cause the lashes to fall out sooner than they are supposed to.
6. Keep your natural lashes healthy
One idea is to invest in an eyelash conditioner or growth serum to maintain the health of your natural lashes. This can help the hairs to stay in the follicle longer resulting in stronger support for the extensions. LashFood® has a lash conditioner that is 100% organic, and enhances your natural lashes with length, volume and thickness.
