What are volume lashes?
Our volume lashes are applied to each natural eyelash in a fanned shape. We normally attach 40-120 extensions per eye, but this set adds up to 500 per eye! This is possible because this type of extension is lighter and finer than mink extensions, so multiple can be applied to one lash without looking clumpy or feeling heavy. When more than one lash is applied to each existing lash, the look is natural and feathered. 2D is approximately 200 lashes per eye, 3D is 300 lashes, and so on all the way up to 8D (anything over 4D requires a consultation before application). The amount of extensions applied depends on natural lash health—your stylist will help make the right choice for you!
Volume lashes are NOT cluster lashes, Y lashes or W lashes! They are a new and advanced technique in the beauty industry. There are many untrained lash techs that are trying to provide this advanced service, so make sure you do your research. Maintaining your lash health is the number one priority, so it pays to make sure you are receiving the best quality extensions possible.
Volume lashes take longer than other services because of the nuance of this technique that can only be done by select master stylists. This process can take anywhere from 75-180 minutes, so come prepared to rest (we recommend headphones!). Fills will also take longer than classic eyelash extension refill appointments.
How long do they last?
Since there are significantly more lashes per natural lash, volume lashes will last much longer than classic eyelash extension—generally three to six weeks. Longevity depends on how well they are cared for, of course, and refills will be needed less frequently.
After care for volume lashes is very minimal! For the first 24 hours after application, don’t let lashes get wet or exposed to moisture. Daily cleansing with an oil-free foaming cleanser is recommended, as well as brushing the lashes after showers to keep them tidy. Sealant is not recommended with volume lashes. You will receive an after care sheet and complimentary eyelash brush after your appointment.
This is a new service, so our stylists will work with you to find the best option for your natural coloring and intended look. If you are interested in volume lashes or curious if they may be right for you, contact Caroline’s Lash Boutique today!
